Shipt Tour

Image
On February 24th, the AMA chapter at Jax State toured Shipt's headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama!       During the visit, students were guided by Jada Dumas and Megan Hardin, who provided an in-depth look at the company's operations, workplace culture, and overall business strategy. Students were able to actively engage by asking thoughtful questions, participating in discussions, and observing how business concepts are applied in a real-world corporate setting.  The ability to see the headquarters environment firsthand made the experience even more impactful. Students were able to tour each floor in their headquarters, including their photography studio, meeting rooms, and even their arcade!      Beyond learning about Shipt as a company, the visit gave students a valuable opportunity to grow within the marketing community. Experiences like this allow students to build connections, gain professional insight, and better ...

Guest Speaker-Spencer Oliver

Image
On February 10th, AMA at JSU had a chance to hear from Spencer Oliver, the Senior Marketing Manager at RMC Health System.      Mr. Oliver's creative presentation covered many topics and gave good advice that is not only useful for students now, but also useful for life after graduation. He broke down what marketing truly is about: understanding people, using strategy, communication, and value to connect with your audience. He also shared marketing strategies he uses at his job and how important resources, teamwork, and community are in healthcare marketing.     Additionally, Mr. Oliver did a leadership activity with AMA students. Before the meeting, each student filled out a quiz, and this quiz categorized students into four categories based on their leadership style. He broke down each leadership style, highlighting their strengths and ways they can grow.      Ultimately, he ended with great advice for students as they begin s...

T-Shirt Design Competition Workshop

Image
AMA members held a t-shirt design competition workshop on February 3rd, 2026. Members worked in teams or individually to create a design for our chapter's shirts. The design we chose will also be entered in the t-shirt design at our upcoming ICC competition! By the end of the meeting, members created ten impressive designs. When we finished our designs, the chapter voted on our favorite. Members had fun discussing which ones were their favorites and what they liked about each design. The top two favorite designs won a 7 Brew gift card! We are excited to wear our t-shirts with the design we chose, and we are looking forward to entering it in the ICC t-shirt competition. Congratulations to Haley Garcia for winning 1st place and Haliegh Chavez for winning 2nd place! All of the designs were excellent and it was hard to choose a winner!

Guest Speaker Day with Griffin Herb

Image
On January 27th, AMA members gathered at Merrill Hall for our third meeting of the semester! We had the pleasure of hosting our guest speaker, Griffin Herb. Mr. Herb is the marketing manager for McWane Valve & Hydrant Group. With Mr. Herb receiving both his bachelor's and MBA from JSU, he had helpful insights to students at JSU, because he was once in the same position we are in today. He shared the trajectory of his career from beginning to present day with us. This includes all his past and current jobs, what he did in each position, where they were located, and the pros and cons of these positions. This helped students understand different jobs in the marketing field, because he has had a lot of experience. Mr. Herb's main piece of advice was to take risks. If he had not taken risks, he would not be in the job he is in today. He also shared valuable career advice about recognizing the right opportunities and not being afraid to move from a good situation to a better on...

Once everyone was settled in, we transitioned into the introduction of our workshop. Our president walked us through the structure of the meeting and explained how the activity would flow, setting us up for a productive and exciting session.  Next, members received a marketing brief for our Marketing Strategy Workshop. The challenge? Create a full marketing strategy for Verde, a green, sustainable, and chemical-free laundry detergent brand targeting Gen Z consumers. Teams were asked to think creatively about branding, messaging, promotion, and positioning while keeping sustainability and authenticity at the center.  After br...
